HOT Night at the Birchmere!
I had seen Jay Buchanan, one of the best bluesman of our time, at the Birchmere once before and was looking forward to hearing the guitar prodigy Quinn Sullivan, who is just amazing. Quinn lead off the show and was SPOT ON! After he reaches puberty, he's gonna be something else! He had a couple of gaffs in there but for the most part he was not just for a kid playing that good.
We got there and everything was going along normally when all of a sudden the power goes out. Well, it took almost an hour but power was restored and the normal pre-show routine resumed. As the show progressed however, Quinn was not the only thing hot in the club. The power may have come back, but the A/C never did and the place was getting warm and stuffy.
Jay came out and was his usual magnificent self, playing the crowd like a fiddle and tearing it up on his Stratocaster. His song, Skin Deep, was as soulful as ever and the sounds he makes with that sitar are unique.
Can't wait for Jay to come back and bring Quinn with him. Hopefully by then, Quinn's voice will have cracked. Went to see one of my favorites, Jay Buchanan, and the 12 year old guitar prodigy Quinn Sullivan.
